CEN 430/530 Polluted Sites: Introduction to Environmental Site Assessments

The course provides a comprehensive introduction to environmental due diligence and risk management at polluted sites through seven focused modules. Topics include the fundamentals of pollution and environmental geochemistry, federal and state regulatory frameworks, Phase I, II, and III site assessments, indoor environment evaluations, sampling methodologies, and environmental data analysis. Designed to equip researchers, practitioners, and students with essential knowledge and practical skills, the course supports effective assessment and management of environmental risks to promote safer and more sustainable site remediation.

CEN 428/504 Probability & Statistics for Civil Engineers

The course covers foundational and intermediate probability and statistics theories with a focus on applications in civil and environmental engineering applicationsm. Topics include discrete and continuous random variables, probability distributions, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and linear regression analysis, providing essential tools for data analysis and decision-making in engineering contexts.

CEN 430/513 Environmental Justice Principles for Engineers

The course provides an introduction to the principles of environmental justice, emphasizing fair treatment and meaningful community participation in decision-making within the engineering profession. Across eight modules, students explore environmental laws and policies, the effects of discriminatory land use, evidence-based approaches to identifying environmental justice issues, community engagement strategies, equitable development, and the integration of environmental justice principles into engineering design. The curriculum also includes a service-based learning component to provide a real-world learning experience and cultivate professional skills.

CEN 110 Civil Engineering Programming

The course offers an introduction to programming using Excel software and programming using R. It covers fundamental programming concepts, data importation, performing mathematical and statistical calculations, data visualization through plotting, and exporting results. It is designed to equip students with practical computational skills, the course supports data analysis and problem-solving in civil engineering projects.
